To welcome in the milder months of the year we’re releasing our very first stout!
Aptly named From the Ashes, as a reminder that it’s never too late to reinvent oneself, we’ve brewed this one up with a variety of special roasted malts to add multiple layers of roasty goodness, expect flavours of dark chocolate, espresso and treacle.
To add our own local stamp on this we’ve used a rare Sussex hop called Phoenix, which exhibits the unusual flavours of chocolate, spice and molasses, perfectly complimenting the malt selection.
We’re really excited to release this beer so we’ve written a blog post on dark beers below to get everyone into the mood, with a bonus discount code for pre-orders for anyone that makes it to the bottom!
The Charm of Dark Beers: A Deep Dive into Craft Brewing
In the vibrant tapestry of craft brewing, dark beers stand as the brooding, mysterious characters—the epitome of depth and complexity. They are the enigmatic friends of the beer world, offering layers upon layers of flavour that reveal themselves slowly, like the pages of a good book.
The Birth of Darkness
Dark beers trace their origins to the early brewing traditions of Europe. From the robust stouts of England to the velvety porters of Ireland, these brews have been captivating palates for centuries. The secret to their deep, rich hues lies in the malt. Dark beers are brewed using roasted malts or barley, which impart that characteristic colour and a spectrum of flavours, ranging from caramel and chocolate to coffee and molasses.
Flavour Profiles: More Than Meets the Eye
When you take a sip of a well-crafted dark beer, you're not just drinking beer; you're experiencing a symphony of flavours. The initial bitterness is often balanced by a sweet, malty undertone, creating a harmonious blend that's both satisfying and intriguing. Each style—be it a stout, porter, or black IPA—brings its own unique twist to the dark beer experience.
Pairing Perfection
Dark beers are incredibly versatile when it comes to food pairings. Their rich flavours make them a perfect match for hearty dishes like beef stew, roasted meats, and even desserts. Imagine a silky stout paired with a chocolate cake, where the beer's bitterness complements the sweetness of the cake, creating an indulgent experience that's hard to beat.
The Craft Brewery Connection
For craft breweries, dark beers offer a canvas for creativity. Brewers can experiment with different types of malt, hops, and brewing techniques to create unique brews that stand out in a crowded market. From barrel-aged stouts to chocolate-infused porters, the possibilities are endless.
Step into the Darkness
So next time you’re contemplating purchasing some beer, don't shy away from the darker side of the beer spectrum. Embrace the richness, the complexity, and the history that dark beers bring to the table. Whether you're a seasoned beer enthusiast or a curious newcomer, there's a dark beer out there that's sure to captivate your taste buds and leave you craving more, and we hope it will be ours!
